Sometimes you learn new things from stories. Dave in Rochester remembered town meeting in Enfield. He was working in the sap house across the street from the town hall. Before the meeting, a couple of locals stopped by and handed him some eggs. As soon as he saw folks emerging from the Meeting House for the noontime meal, he was to put the eggs in the boiling sap.
Seems eggs hard boiled in sap have a delicious maple flavor. The boys were thinking with their stomachs and thinking ahead.
Another Town Meeting Story -- They just keep a-comin’.
Loudon, some years ago: Roger Maxfield was a young selectman with a true old-yankee soul. The purchase of a new police car was up for discussion at town meeting. Levi Ladd, a construction guy with a practical nature, raised the question: “What are you gonna do with three cops and one car?”
Roger said, “Two in the front, one in the back.”
