This one took me a minute to figure out.
Sharon’s little daughter went to day care. One afternoon, she started talking about “Penny.” Sharon said, “Honey, there’s no one named Penny at your day care. “Oh,” said the little girl, “I guess it’s Quarter then.”
Turns out, she was actually talking about Nicole.
Speaking of the way little ones interpret the world:
Sonia told the story of a retired major league player, pitched for the Red Sox (she couldn’t remember his name) who coached T-ball. Her son was assigned to his team.
Her son was not the most competitive kid. In fact he’d be the one in left field picking dandelions. She worried that the coach would be too demanding. On the contrary:
One practice, instead of using the T, coach lobbed pitches at the kids. He kept lobbing until each kid got a hit. When her son stepped to home base, he missed the first 36 or 37 pitches, but finally connected. Yup, he got a hit!
Afterwards he asked, “Mom, did Coach really pitch for the Red Sox?”
“Yes,” she said.
“Well,” the little boy said, “I guess I must be pretty good!”
