At the Connecticut Storytelling Festival, naturally our talk turned to outhouses, and then expanded to public rest rooms. A woman recalled going to a church function, visiting the ladies room, and reading on the wall, Psalm 139: Oh Lord, you know when I sit and when I rise.
Which reminded me of the old saying, sometimes inscribed on outhouse walls: “Sometimes I sits and thinks, and sometimes I just sits.”
My husband John and I are just back from doing a lot of sitting and thinking and just sitting on the beautiful beaches of St. Croix. Here’s my favorite vacation photo of me -- yup, I’m a snorkeler. I snorkel. And I saw a nurse shark, an eagle ray, parrot fish, and a whole lot of other wonders just under the surface of the clear Caribbean water.
