True story -- names and locations changed on account of criminal-ish activity.
"John" from "Woodford" bought seeds from a school fundraiser. Planted them in the yard, and before long a marijuana plant sprouted and grew vigorously.
"How did you know it was marijuana?" I asked John’s wife "Judy."
"From the smell," she said.
It grew and grew. They lived on a dead-end back road, so nobody bothered. But when it got to be the height of a man, Judy said, "John, you’ve got to get rid of that thing."
John procrastinated.
One morning the phone rang at 6:00 a.m.. It was the police. They said, "There was a 911 call from this number." John and Judy knew nothing about it. The officer said he was on his way. 911 hang-ups must be investigated. John and Judy asked their little boys if anybody’d made a call.
"Yup," said Jake, "Chris was mean so I called the police."
Just then Judy remembered the monstrosity growing in the front yard. And the police on the way.
Luckily, John said, he’d disposed of it in the compost pile the night before.
