This falls under the category of dry Yankee humor. Parched, I’d say.
Judy lived in Marlow with her first husband and their dog, a border collie named Sugar Bear. The first husband insisted that the dog run free – this was the least of Judy and the first husband’s problems, but that’s another story. Judy and her first husband and Sugar Bear lived next door to a native and his three grown sons.
One very foggy morning, Judy stepped out on the porch in pink curlers and a robe to call Sugar Bear. She couldn’t see a thing and was worried that the dog might be in the road. “Sugar Bear,” she called. No Sugar Bear. Then louder. “Sugar Bear!” No dog. Finally, “SUGAR BEAR!”
“Comin’,” boomed a deep man’s voice from next door.
To this day, Judy doesn’t know which of those Yankees answered the call.
