Islandport Press is fortunate to be located in Maine among a thriving creative community. Our authors and illustrators often collaborate with other arts-driven organizations for readings, discussions and special events. Over the next two months, we're especially excited about three unique book events coming up at Portland Stage Company.
The first event, called Play Me a Story, is geared towards children ages 4-10 and features two winter-themed picture books — One-Dog Sleigh by Mary Cassanova and The Iciest, Diciest, Scariest Sled Ride Ever! by our own Rebecca Rule. The morning begins with a dramatic reading of each book. After the performance, kids get to take part in an interactive workshop. Rebecca Rule will also be available to sell and sign copies of her book. We hope you'll bring home a copy to remember this special morning! The event takes place on Saturday, January 21, 2017 at 10:30 a.m.
For adults, Portland Stage is hosting a Maine Crime Writers event on Monday, January 30. Actors and local authors will read selections from the work of several popular writers who focus on crime, mystery and suspense. The impressive roster includes Brenda Buchanan, Paul Doiron, Chris Holm, Julia Spencer-Fleming, and Islandport Press author, Gerry Boyle, who is best known for his Jack McMorrow mystery series. Visit for a complimentary reception at 6:30 p.m. and stay for the readings — it's sure to be a memorable night! You can learn more here.
On Saturday, February 18 at 10:30 a.m., we'll return to Play Me a Story for a second time! The dramatic reading will include a picture book titled Duck Duck Goose by Tad Hills and The Lake Where Loon Lives by Brenda Reeves Sturgis, who will be there to celebrate the reading of her book. She'll stay on afterwards to sign copies for sale.
